Pittsfield: Jazz Vespers season to conclude


Zion Lutheran Church will hosts its Jazz Vespers season finale at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 19, at the church located at 74 First St. This event marks the conclusion of the second full season of Jazz Vespers at Zion Lutheran. June 19 is also Third Thursday is downtown Pittsfield.

"Vespers" is the name of an evening service that has been observed in the Christian tradition for at least the last 15 centuries. Jazz Vespers at Zion incorporates modern elements of jazz, blues, and gospel into this historic tradition, from the song arrangements, to the harmonies, to the instrumentation.

The Jazz Vespers ensemble includes the Rev. Andrew Barnett, piano; Katharine Wiencke, flute; Andy Wrba, bass; Bill Chapman, drums; and Marisa Massery, vocals; with guest appearances by Will Cleary, alto saxophone.

There is no admission fee or cover charge. A reception will follow.
