Pittsfield: Jewish Federation offers program on the Torah

Friday July 19, 2013

The Jewish Federation of the Berkshires will sponsor the program, "Passover and Peter Rabbit, Olive Trees and Social Security: How Insights From Nature, Science, and Agriculture Can Help Us Understand and Appreciate the Torah," at 1 p.m. on Monday, July 22, at Congregation Knesset Israel, 16 Colt Road.

Agronomist and teacher Jon Greenberg will lead the program. Greenberg currently teaches at the Heschel School in New York City.

Attendees will have a chance to handle and smell some of the fragrant plant resins used in the ancient Temple incense and taste the wild lettuce that was probably the original maror, the bitter herb of Passover.

The program is open to the public at a cost of $3.

Information: Nancy Maurice Rogers, program director, at (413) 442-4360, ext. 15.
