Pittsfield: Kiwanis Club's Park of Honor to provide 20 scholarships

Posted

The Kiwanis Club of Pittsfield's Park of Honor Scholarship Committee announces the result of this year's fundraising event.

Scholarship funds were raised through the generosity of local individuals and companies that sponsored 670 individual American flags waiving in Park Square this fall. The "Park of Honor" American Flag display honored all American military veterans.

The project was carried out by the efforts of volunteers from the Kiwanis Club, local veteran organizations, and other individuals.

This year's project raised $20,000. Scholarship opportunities will increase from 12 in 2015, to 20 $1,000 higher education scholarships for qualifying students in 2016.

All Berkshire County children or grandchildren of American military veterans that plan to continue their education beyond high school or are already enrolled in a post-secondary program are encouraged to apply.

Applications and requirements for the scholarships will be available in the guidance offices of Berkshire County public and private high schools and online at pittsfieldkiwanis.org in January 2016.
