Pittsfield: Main break affects water in East Street area

PITTSFIELD -- Residents in the vicinity of East, Winesap, Imperial, Wealthy, Baldwin and Dutchess streets may experience water service problems today from a main break at 1949 East St.

The Department of Public Utilities’ Water Division reported the break this morning and making sure residents are aware of potential water service interruptions, Commissioner Bruce Collingwood said.

A series of water valves in the vicinity of the break will be turned off to isolate the area so the water main may be repaired, according to a statement released by the city.

The work may cause sporadic dirty water and low water pressure on these streets. Residents who experience dirty water are advised to let the water run to allow it to clear.

Residents are asked to contact the water office at 499-9339 if problems persist.
