Pittsfield man accused of punching ex-girlfriend held for dangerousness hearing

PITTSFIELD -- A Pittsfield man accused of punching an ex-girlfriend in the face and threatening to shoot her friend is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.

Police and prosecutors say Steven Tremble, 22, of Winesap Road, attacked the 24-year-old woman outside of a Dalton residence, slapping her twice before hitting her in the face with a closed fist. She suffered minor injuries, according to police. There was no mention in the police report of the woman seeking medical attention.

Tremble then threatened to shoot the woman’s 23-year-old friend after the man "brought him to the ground." It was not alleged Tremble displayed a gun, but police say he is known to carry them.

While police were interviewing the two complaining witnesses at the headquarters, Tremble returned to the Dalton residence and again made threats, saying he was going to "put 10 bullets in your head" and threw a beer bottle that smashed in front of the residence, according to police. It was unclear exactly to whom he was making the threats.

Police later stopped Tremble on North Street in order to arrest him on charges of a misdemeanor threat to commit murder and domestic assault and battery. Based on their observations, they determined he was under the influence of alcohol and additionally charged him with drunk driving. The charge was later amended to second offense drunk driving based on a 2009 conviction, according to court records.

On Wednesday, Tremble appeared before District Court Judge Matthew J. Shea and was held without bail by agreement between Tremble’s attorney, Anthony Gianacopoulos, and Assistant Berkshire District Attorney Daniel Hespeler. He is due back in court on July 1 for a dangerousness hearing. If determined to be a danger to the community, he could be held without bail for up to 90 days.

The 24-year-old complaining witness was given a restraining order against Tremble.
