SPRINGFIELD — A federal grand jury has indicted a Pittsfield man on multiple child pornography charges.

Jeffrey A. Petryk, who was 54 at the time of his January 2015 arrest, is scheduled to be arraigned in U.S. District Court Oct. 13 on a total of seven felony counts related to the accusations.

Petryk was arrested after police executed a search warrant for his Boylston Street apartment, where investigators discovered an electronic storage device containing pornographic material involving children.

According to the file names of the recovered images included in a copy of the indictment obtained by The Eagle, some of the children involved could have been as young as 3 years old.

Petryk faces five counts of receipt of material involving the sexual exploitation of minors and one count each of distribution and possession of material involving the sexual exploitation of minors.

According to the indictment, in late October 2014, Petryk distributed a computer file containing at least four different depictions of minors engaged in sexual activity.

He is further accused of receiving at least five pornographic files involving children between June 2014 and January 2015. He is currently free on $500 bail.

The initial investigation was conducted by members of the state police Berkshire Detective Unit, the Berkshire County Drug Task Force, the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and the Berkshire Sheriff's Office.
