PITTSFIELD -- A city man was killed on Tuesday when his motorcycle crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of North Street and Springside Avenue, according to Pittsfield police.

John Kenney, 49, of Norman Avenue, was operating a blue and black 2002 Suzuki VL800 motorcycle when he struck a sedan whose operator was trying to make a left turn from North Street onto Springside Avenue around 1 p.m.

Members of Action Ambulance and Pittsfield Fire Department treated Kenney at the scene before transporting him to Berkshire Medical Center.

Kenney died "a short time after his arrival at the emergency department," according to Pittsfield Police Department. The nature of his injuries remains unclear.

Shannon Curtiss, 31, of Stephentown, N.Y., was operating the vehicle Kenny struck, a 2004 Ford Focus. She had been driving south on North Street prior to the accident at the intersection.

The crash remains under investigation and police are asking witnesses to contact Officer Jeffrey Coco at 448-9700, ext. 338.
