Pittsfield pair charged with vandalism on Francis Avenue

PITTSFIELD -- Police charged two city residents with vandalism after they allegedly took part in breaking the window of a car.

Rose Dawson, 20, and Matthew Guillou, 26, both of Daniels Avenue, were arrested for allegedly smashing in the rear passenger window of a parked Infinity on Francis Avenue.

Police were called to Francis Avenue at 12:05 a.m. on Monday after receiving a call from a resident who witnessed people attempting to break into the car.

The witness saw a man and a woman in dark shirts standing near a vehicle, heard a window smash, and saw the pair walk toward Linden Street.

After the window was broken, a third person walked up to the car, according to the witness. The female dropped an object on the sidewalk and then picked it up, according to the police report.

When police arrived a short time later, the woman was seen throwing the object into a fenced in garden. Police recovered a portable DVD player from the garden and a compatible cable on the ground near the vehicle.

The owner of the vehicle reported nothing was missing from the car, so the two were not charged with burglary. A third party was not located by police.

Judge Robert Murphy released both on their own personal recognizance on Tuesday, pending a future court date.

The latest incident follows a string of burglaries into parked vehicles along city streets in the past month. Dawson and Guillou are not facing any charges related to those cases.
