Pittsfield police: 18-year-old shot in leg Wednesday night
PITTSFIELD -- Police say an 18-year-old Pittsfield man was shot in the leg Wednesday night.
Police declined to release the identity of the victim, and his condition could not be determined on Thursday. The gunshot victim was admitted to Berkshire Medical Center, police said.
Capt. Patrick F. Barry said the wound came from a small-caliber handgun and was not life-threatening.
As of Thursday afternoon, police had no suspects and had yet to determine a motive.
Authorities believe that the man was shot in area near Columbus and Daniels avenues, Barry said. The incident was reported to police at 10:30 p.m.
According to Barry, police received a report of a man walking on Columbus Avenue near Pitt Park with a possible gunshot wound to the leg. Officers who responded to the scene didn't locate anyone there, but were later informed that a person showed up at BMC's Emergency Room seeking treatment for a similar injury.
Officers later spoke to several people who said they had heard a single gunshot in the neighborhood where the shooting took place.
"We didn't recover any guns, bullets or projectiles," Barry said. "Right now it's under investigation."
