Pittsfield Police arrest despondent man, seize guns

PITTSFIELD — City police have taken into custody a man who was reportedly threatening to harm himself Monday afternoon at an Elm Street home.
Michael Marchetti, 36, was arrested without incident in the backyard of 609 Elm St., according to Pittsfield Police.
About 1:11 p.m., police received a call that Marchetti was despondent and reportedly had made suicidal statements, and was armed.
Officers from Pittsfield, Dalton and the county's Special Response Team closed off a section of Elm Street and contained the area around the home.
Police were seen removing several firearms from the home following the disturbance.
Police left the scene shortly after 2:30 p.m.
Marchetti faces charges of disturbing the peace and improper storage of a firearm. He was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Central Berkshire District Court.
