Pittsfield Police arrest man suspected in six recent armed robberies
PITTSFIELD — Police have made an arrest in connection with a string of recent armed robberies.
George J. Bliss, 30, of Onota Street, Pittsfield, was arrested on outstanding warrants late Tuesday afternoon following the Sunday night arrest of 35-year-old Heidi L. Bliss-Reed, the suspected getaway car driver in an armed robbery at Cumberland Farms on Dalton Avenue, according to Police Chief Michael Wynn.
During questioning, George J. Bliss told detectives he was involved in the Cumberland Farms robbery as well as five previous others. Those include the armed robberies of Getty on Elm Street on Dec. 23, the Dawes Avenue Variety on Jan. 7, Peaslee's on Wilson Street on Jan. 9, Subway on Tyler on Jan. 23, and Angelina's on Elm on Jan. 23.
Sunday night's marked the 12th armed robbery in Pittsfield since Nov. 23.
Bliss has been charged with six counts of armed robbery while masked. He is being held at the Pittsfield Police lockup on $100,000 bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in Central Berkshire District Court.
