Pittsfield Police arrest youth on gun charge following shooting


PITTSFIELD — A city youth who allegedly shot a second juvenile Friday afternoon is in custody.

Pittsfield Police said officers apprehended a fleeing teenager on Daniels Avenue after witnesses reported hearing gunfire at Francis and Danforth avenues around 3 p.m.

The teen was found to be in possession of a loaded pistol, and was arrested on charges of possession of a loaded firearm without a license and possession of ammunition without a license.

A short time later, a second teenager suffering "an apparent non-life-threatening gunshot wound" arrived at Berkshire Medical Center emergency room for treatment, according to police.

Police said in a press release that additional charges against the arrested party may be pending. He will be arraigned in Central Berkshire Juvenile Court on Feb. 29.
