Pittsfield Police investigate daytime shooting that injured 1

PITTSFIELD — City police are investigating a Monday morning shooting at Riverview Homes which injured one person.

Police said the shooting appears to be isolated and there is no threat to the general public.

Police said the shooting victim, whose identity they did not disclose, suffered a single gunshot wound to their hand.

According to information from a resident of building 10, who asked not to be identified, a sound like a "small pop" or firecracker was heard around 10:30 a.m. on Monday.

The resident of the building didn't think much of the sound until they left their apartment later and saw blood on the staircase between the first and second floor.

Police reportedly canvassed the building and spoke to residents until about 1 p.m. Monday, according to a witness, who said the police K-9 unit was also present.

Police said the matter is still under investigation.
