Pittsfield police investigate reported robbery, beating


PITTSFIELD -- A Pittsfield man told police he was robbed at the intersection of Cherry and Lincoln streets on Monday evening.

Police responded to the call at 8:24 p.m., Pittsfield Police Sgt. Michael Maddalena confirmed.

The 33-year-old man told police he was approached by a white male who asked for marijuana, Maddalena said. When the man replied he had none, he told police he was beaten and knocked unconscious. He said he was robbed of an undetermined amount of money.

Police found the man with facial cuts and lacerations, including swelling to one eye. The man refused medical attention, Maddalena said.

The man told police he may know his assailant. Police are waiting for the man to provide a better description of his assailant.
