PITTSFIELD -- Police are investigating a robbery that took place in the south parking lot of the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail on Wednesday morning.

A man was robbed of cash in the parking lot, said Capt. John Mullen. The incident was reported to Pittsfield Police at 11:29 a.m.

Police declined to say how much cash was taken, and whether a weapon was used in the incident. The victim, who is male, was not injured, Mullen said.

The suspect is described as a 6-foot white male with black or gray hair who weighs around 190 pounds. He was wearing a Boston Bruins baseball cap, a red hoodie-style sweatshirt, blue jeans and workboots.

He left the area in a red four-door Saturn. The license plate number is unknown.

Both Lanesborough Police and security guards at the Berkshire Mall assisted in the initial investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Pittsfield Police Detective Bureau at (413) 448-9705, or Police Officer Marc Maddalena at (413) 448-9723.
