Pittsfield police probe 2nd gunfire incident near Springside Park

PITTSFIELD -- An early morning shooting near the city's Springside Park was the second such incident in just under a month in the same area.

About 12:37 a.m. Wednesday, Pittsfield Police responded to reports of multiple shots being fired near the park around Springside Avenue. The shots initially were reported near Courtland Place.

An area search didn't turn up any shell casings or other evidence, police said.

There were no reported injuries, nor were there descriptions of perpetrators available.

Police are still investigating a similar incident that took place May 13, also on Springside Avenue near the park.

Shell casings were recovered at that scene but no descriptions of the perpetrator have been given.

No one reported being injured in that shooting.

Pittsfield Police Detective Capt. Patrick F. Barry said it hadn't been determined yet whether the two incidents are related.

This is the seventh reported shooting incident in Pittsfield this year.

Anyone with information on this or any of the other shootings is asked to contact the police at (413) 448-9700.
