Pittsfield Police release image of woman in Walmart robbery attempt

PITTSFIELD -- City police on Friday released a surveillance camera image of a woman they say tried to rob a cashier at the Walmart store on Hubbard Avenue earlier this week.

The suspect is described as being in her late 40s or early 50s with reddish-brown hair. She was wearing a black jacket, a white-colored top and dark pants. The image released by police shows the suspect walking out of the store.

According to Pittsfield Police Detective Thomas Dawley, the lead investigator, at about 10:50 p.m. Wednesday, the woman went through the line at one of the front registers at the store, demanded money from the cashier and indicated that she had a handgun on her.

The suspect fled without getting any money, Dawley said.

Anyone with information on the suspect or the crime is asked to call Dawley at (413) 448-9700, ext. 372.
