Pittsfield Police say city man in critical condition after stabbing

PITTSFIELD — A man is in critical condition after receiving multiple stab wounds early Tuesday morning, police said.

According to Pittsfield Police Lieutenant Gary Traversa, the man was dropped off at the Berkshire Medical Center's Emergency Department about 1:49 a.m.

Traversa described the injuries as "traumatic," and said witnesses provided contradictory statements, with some claiming the wounds were gunshots, others identifying them as stab wounds.

Police were directed to Burbank Park where Pittsfield Police Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators established a crime scene.

Police said physical evidence was recovered from both the park and BMC and interviews have been conducted.
