Pittsfield police search for stolen vehicle, investigate bar break-in nearby

PITTSFIELD - Police are searching for a Ford Explorer stolen from a North Street auto repair shop sometime overnight Sunday and the thief responsible for taking $400 from a bar three blocks away that night.

Bill's Front End & Brake Service owner Terry Richard said a burglar broke into his shop by using a rock to bust the front window. The person took off in the Ford Explorer, which had keys inside, he said.

"It's just sad that somebody's selfishness had to dig into my pocket," Richard said. The window damage will cost him an estimated $200 or so, he said. The Ford Explorer belonged to a local customer, he said.

In the bar break-in, someone entered Mission Tapas and Bar on North Street sometime overnight Sunday by breaking through the back door, Pittsfield Police Sgt. Glen Decker said. The money was taken out of the register.

Decker said police currently have no leads in either case. Anyone with information on the incidents should contact the Pittsfield Police Department detective unit at 413-448-9705.
