Pittsfield: Pontoosuc, Onota lake drawdowns under way

Monday October 15, 2012

Pittsfield’s annual drawdown of city lakes got under way on Monday.

Onota Lake will be drawn down approximately six feet below the spillway elevation, and Pontoosuc Lake will be drawn down 3 1/2 feet below the spillway elevation. Refill begins in the spring.

The lakes are drawn down to kill Eurasian milfoil.

Questions about the lake drawdown should be directed to James McGrath, open space program manager, at (413) 499-9344.
