Pittsfield: Red Cross to hold open house for prospective volunteers

Monday February 4, 2013

The American Red Cross, Berkshire County Chapter, is hosting an open house for prospective volunteers from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8.

Anyone interested in learning about disaster services or other volunteer opportunities is urged to attend this open house which will include demonstrations and the opportunity to meet staff and other volunteers.

Disaster volunteers work as a group to respond to local disasters such as house fires. Other opportunities to become involved are by working in the Chapter office or helping at community events and providing information about disaster preparedness.

Training is free and those interested can become certified to respond to local and/or large-scale national disasters.

The Red Cross will offer basic training for disaster response this weekend.

A disaster service overview will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9. Shelter operations/simulation will be offered from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 10.
