Pittsfield: Retired publisher to receive award


PITTSFIELD -- Andy Mick, retired publisher of The Berkshire Eagle and CEO and president of New England Newspapers Inc., is the 2013 recipient of the Lawrence Strattner Jr. Distinguished Citizen Award.

The award will be presented to Mick on Thursday, June 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. under the tent at the BMC Hillcrest Campus at 165 Tor Court.

Cal Joppru of the Pittsfield Health Department will serve as master of ceremonies. The award will be presented by Mary Grant president of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. Former Gov. Jane Swift is the honorary chairman.

Tickets must be purchased in advance by contacting Hunter McCormick at the Boy Scout Council Office.

Presented annually by the Western Massachusetts Council of the Boy Scouts of America, the award is named after the past president of Berkshire Life Insurance Co. Recipients must demonstrate a commitment to the community and, particularly, to youth opportunities and success.

Over his 14 years at NENI, Mick served as director of the Berkshire Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Inc., member
of the Berkshire Business Roundtable, and chairman of the Berkshire Compact for Higher Education.

All proceeds from this event directly benefit the young men and women served through scouting's programs in greater Berkshire County.
