Pittsfield South LL to 12-year-old district title round

PITTSFIELD -- Pittsfield South Little League is one win away from a District I 12-year-old championship.

Three players hit home runs as Pittsfield South routed North Adams 18-8 Tuesday night in the winners' bracket final at Springside Park.

With the victory, Pittsfield South is off until Friday at 5:30 when the championship game will be played. North Adams will play on Thursday against the winner of tonight's game between Pittsfield Don Gleason North and Pittsfield Myron Gray West. The other two games will also begin at 5:30.

Shawn Morgan got the win for Pittsfield South. He was helped by an offensive explosion that included home runs by Drew DeMartino, Luke Scarafoni and Joe Cracolici. Ryan Harrison had three hits for South.

David Beebe homered for North Adams and Ethan Sheldon had two hits.

10-11 Little League

PITTSFIELD -- At Deming Field, Dalton-Hinsdale wrapped up pool play with a 13-3 win over Pittsfield Myron Gray West on Tuesday. The game was stopped after five innings by the 10-run rule. Pittsfield Don Gleason North also won, beating North Adams 4-2.

With the losses, Myron Gray West and North Adams were eliminated from the tournament.

With pool play complete, playoffs begin tonight. Pittsfield South will play Great Barrington at Deming, while Don Gleason North will face Dalton-Hinsdale at Clapp Park. Both games begin at 5:30. The winners play Friday at Deming, also at 5:30.

Jacob Gai and Gabe Verdi each had two hits and two runs scored for Dalton-Hinsdale. Tanner Hill and Kevin Huban kept Myron Gray West's offense under wraps.

Stephan West had two hits for Myron Gray West.

In the other game, Cam Winters and Chris Womble pitched well to give Don Gleason North the win. Nick Sayers had two hits for the winners and Reece Gillette had a double.

Logan Tower of North Adams singled and tripled.

AAU softball
Shock 4, Springfield 2

The Western Mass. Shock (10-1) fast-pitch softball team defeated the Springfield Rockets 4-2 in a Springfield Metro League 18-Under Division 1-A game.

Sarah Rayner tossed a three-hitter and struck out 14. She helped her cause by going 3 for 3.

Shelbi Clary was 3 for 4 while Ashley Ciepiela had a hit and two runs batted in. Kendal Frye drove in a run while Sierra Bailey tripled and had an RBI and Alison Shand doubled.
