Pittsfield: South Mountain string quartet set to perform Sunday

PITTSFIELD -- American String Quartet with guest artists Menahem Pressler, violin, and Richard Stoltzman, clarinet, is scheduled to perform Sunday afternoon at 3 at South Mountain.

The program includes Mo zart’s Trio for Clarinet, Viola and Piano, in E-flat Major, K. 498, and his Quintet in A Major for Clarinet and Strings, K. 581; and Schumann’s Quintet for Piano and Strings in E-Flat Major, Op. 44.

The American String Quartet -- Peter Winograd and Laurie Carney, violins; Daniel Avsha lo mov, viola; and Wolfram Koessel, cello -- has toured the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia and Israel.

Pressler co-founded the Beaux Arts Trio in 1955 and remained with the ensemble until his retirement in 2008. He has performed with chamber ensembles and symphony orchestras worldwide.

Stoltzman has performed with orchestras, chamber ensembles and in solo recitals across the United States and worldwide.

South Mountain is off Routes 7 and 20, between Berkshire Life and Dan Fox Drive.
