Pittsfield South opens Little League sectional tournament with a win
PITTSFIELD -- Pittsfield South opened the 12-year-old sectional tournament with a victory, getting a complete game victory from pitcher Ian Benoit in a 4-1 win over Westfield North.
Benoit gave up just five hits and struck out nine to earn the win. Teammate Cedric Rose had three hits and scored a run while Jon Halse had a home run and scored twice.
Westfield's lone run came off a homer from Spencer Cloutier in the sixth.

PITTSFIELD -- This game was suspended in the 11th due to darkness with the teams tied. The game will resume today at Clapp Park at 5:30 p.m.
North Adams 11,
Lenox Dale 1
LENOXDALE -- North Adams Post 125 found a way to keep its season alive with a big win over Lenox Dale in the Berkshire County American Legion baseball playoffs.
Robert Jutras threw a complete game and Max Quinn had two RBI in the 11-1
North Adams will now play Tyler Aces at Taconic this afternoon. The game will start at 5:30 p.m. The loser of the contest is eliminated from the tournament.
Post 125 finally had the bats come alive and took advantage of seven Lenoxdale errors. North Adams had nine hits. Slayter Aubin was 3 for 3 with a double, while Ryan Ouimet legged out a triple.
"We've been silent all season with the bats," coach Bob Rumbolt said. "I think they responded well tonight and showed up with their bats and defense."

PITTSFIELD -- Sam Sherman earned the win, with teammate Anton Lazits picking up two hits, including a double, and knocking in two runs. Jake Risley had three hits.
Great Barrington got two hits and an RBI from Jackson Blanchard while Caden O'Rourke added a double and an RBI.
Pittsfield South CD 15, Pittsfield North 0
PITTSFIELD -- Bo Bramer earned the win for South, allowing just one hit.
Bramer also had four hits, including two triples, and an RBI. Josh Lennon had two hits and Troy Soldato had three hits.
Jon Monahan had North's only hit.
Babe Ruth 13s
Westfield 14, Pittsfield 13
WESTFIELD -- Pittsfield couldn't hold onto an early 10-3 lead, falling in the Western Mass. state championship games.
Jake McNeice was 3 for 4 with three RBI while Ethan Forfa had two hits and an RBI for Pittsfield. Devon Walker added four hits, including a double, and two RBI.
The problem for Pittsfield was 14 walks issued by five pitchers.
"You get this late in the tournament, you run out of pitching," said Pittsfield manager Eric Stone.
Wachusett 9, Pittsfield 6
PITTSFIELD -- Wachusett won the first game of a doubleheader at Wahconah Park on a three-run homer from Nate Pajka in the eighth inning.
The Suns put two on in the bottom half of the inning but couldn't bring anybody home. Kyle Singleton finished with three hits and a pair of RBI in the loss. Chris Carmain also drove in two for Pittsfield.
Reliever Josh Martin took the loss, allowing four hits and four runs over two innings of work.
