Pittsfield: St. Luke's Alumni award nursing scholarships
PITTSFIELD >> The St. Luke's Alumni Association scholarship committee, under the chairmanship of Linda Vuillemot Murphy '67, recently awarded four $1,000 scholarships to women who are pursuing careers in the nursing field, as well as a $500 spirituality award selected annually by the BCC faculty.
Each of the $1,000 scholarship recipients have a grade point average of at least 3.0.
Katherine Sadighi, who is a member of the alumni as well as the daughter of alumnus Donna Dugan Sadighi '74, is a graduate student in the Gerontology Nursing Program on the clinical nurse specialist tract at Russell Sage College in Troy, N.Y.
Maureen Feldman, granddaughter of Lee Flaro Conrow '53, will be attending Berkshire Community College in the fall.
Eva Marie Handerek, a relative of Margaret Conroy '65 and the granddaughter of Thomas Duane, a former instructor at the school of nursing, is in the nursing program at Northeastern University in Boston.
Catherine Putko, granddaughter of alumnus Marie Cozzolino Matthews '60, will be attending Yale School of Nursing in West Haven, Conn.
Charlotte Christopher of Pittsfield was chosen by BCC as the recipient of the $500 spirituality award.
Although it is not a prerequisite to be a relative of a St. Luke's graduate, applicants who have relatives who are closely associated with the former school are given priority.
St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing closed in 1974 but its alumni association has remained active. Part of members' dues, bequests and donations contribute to its scholarship fund.
