Pittsfield: Workshop offered for parents of children with Autism


Housatonic Academy and Hillcrest Dental Care Inc., both subsidiaries of Hillcrest Educational Centers Inc., are sponsoring a free workshop titled "Taking Autism to the Doctor" from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at Hillcrest Educational Centers’ Administrative Offices, 788 South St.

This workshop will give parents and guardians practical tips on how pro-actively prepare their child for a doctor’s visit. Participants will learn specific interventions including social stories, pre-teaching and conversations with office staff before the trip.

Leading the session are Hillcrest’s director of Autism Services, Todd Castine, and Hillcrest registered dental hygienists Dawn Ferris and Kimberly Jones.

The workshop is the fifth in a series of six free monthly workshops for parents, family and caregivers of people with special needs. Walk-ins are welcome, but RSVPs are requested. Lunch will be provided.
