Pittsfield: Zion Lutheran hosts jazz vespers service

Jazz Vespers will be offered at Zion Lutheran Church, 74 First St., at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7. A casual meal will precede the service starting at 5:30 p.m. featuring entrees from a variety of local restaurants.

"Vespers" is the name of an evening service, which specifically includes prayers for the close of the day.

Jazz Vespers incorporates modern elements of jazz and blues into this historic tradition, from the song arrangements, to the harmonies, to the instrumentation.

The ensemble includes Andy Wrba, bass; Marisa Massery, vocals; Ben Kohn, piano with guest appearances by other local musicians.

There is never an admission fee or cover charge. All free-will donations are used to directly support the Jazz Vespers ministry.
