Pittsfield's auto excise tax bills have been mailed

The first mailing of 2014 Automobile Excise Tax bills were mailed out March 3 and are due April 4.

All payments must be received in the Collector's Office by April 4, otherwise a 12 percent interest will be assessed to the bill along with a $15 demand.

The assessment is based on a $25 per $1,000 valuation.

Anyone who has received a bill for vehicles that they have sold, traded or junked should apply with their bills, plate cancellation receipt and whom the vehicle was sold, traded or given to as well as their new registration to the Board of Assessors.

Also, taxpayers who have moved out of state will need a Massachusetts plate cancellation receipt and a copy of their out of state registration in order to apply to the Board of Assessors for an adjustment.

Citizens can pay online at cityofpittsfield.org; in person at the Collector's Office, City Hall, first floor, Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; or by mail to the City of Pittsfield, Collector's Office, P.O. Box 981063 Boston, MA 02298-1063.

Include the payment coupon, along with the check, in the self-addressed envelope provided for mailing payments.
