Places that offer copy, fax service
When I need to make a photocopy for my own use, I run over to the town library or the post office or the drug store and usually pay 10 to 20 cents a page.
Sending a fax is another matter. Until I happened on a leaflet at the Berkshire Athenaeum in Pittsfield last week, I was clueless about where to go.
The leaflet, for Pittsfield only and last revised in 2009, listed six businesses that provide fax services. I called them all and found the prices varied widely,
Not surprisingly, The UPS Stores at 180 Elm St. and 800 Dalton Ave., and Staples at 555 Hubbard Ave. will send faxes. UPS charges $2.99 for the first page and $1 for each subsequent page. Staples charges $1.50 for the first and $1.30 for subsequent ones sent in state. Out of state was slightly more.
MacFarlane Office Products at 190 South St. said they charge a flat $2 per page.
Courier Printing at 26 First St. charges $2 for the first page, $1 for each subsequent one. Impress Printing at 700 North St. asks $2 for the first and 50 cents for each addition. Finally, Aldam Press at 163 South St. will do it for $1 a page.
The list is by no means comprehensive and, as I said, covers only Pittsfield.
For those outside Pittsfield, Staples and UPS Stores are a start, then looking up printing companies.
That Athenaeum leaflet, by the way, listed those same printing companies in Pittsfield as places to make photocopies.
Local post offices and libraries are also sources to check, as are chain drugstores and supermarkets.
