SALISBURY, CONN. — A vintage, single engine plane that took off from Great Barrington late Sunday afternoon crashed in the Northwest hills of Connecticut.

According to the state and federal authorities, the 1946 Piper J-3 Cub that left the Walter J. Koladza Airport crashed on Mount Riga Road in Mount Riga State Park in Salisbury around 5 p.m., eyewitnesses told state police. The pilot and passenger, who weren't identified, were taken to nearby Sharon Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. A Connecticut environmental clean-up crew was dispatched to deal with a fuel leak from the plane and the Federal Aviation Administration will investigate what caused the crash.
