Police: Hyannis man attacked store owner with shovel

Posted

HYANNIS (AP) - Authorities say a Hyannis man used a shovel to attack a store owner who was clearing a parking area outside of his apartment with a snow blower.

WCVB-TV reports that Barnstable police Sgt. Thomas Toomey says that 55-year-old William Kaouette was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon after the alleged attack around 3 a.m. Sunday outside of his apartment.

He will be arraigned Tuesday. It was unclear whether he had an attorney.

Toomey says Kaouette saw the store owner blowing snow onto his car and started screaming. Toomey says he then said he wanted to help, but instead attacked the owner with a shovel. The victim declined medical treatment.
