Police investigating shooting in Springfield's Bay section


SPRINGFIELD >> Police are investigating after a man allegedly involved in a shooting in Springfield was driven to the hospital independently for treatment for head wounds.

The Springfield Republican reports (http://bit.ly/1SdhciM ) police received reports of shots fired in the area of Oakwood Terrace near a housing project in the city's Bay neighborhood around 7:10 p.m. Wednesday.

Shortly after, officers were notified that a victim apparently linked to the shooting was taken by private vehicle to Mercy Medical Center.

Initial reports indicated that the man possibly suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Capt. Robert Strzempek says the victim might've been injured by shattered glass from the shooting.

Multiple units responded to the hospital and Oakwood Terrace. Shell casings were found at the scene.
