Police investigating Springfield housing project shooting


SPRINGFIELD, MASS. >> Police say two men who were shot at a housing project in Springfield's Pine Point section are expected to survive.

Officers were dispatched to the John I. Robinson Gardens housing complex after six to seven shots were fired from a passing vehicle just before 6 p.m. Monday. Witnesses described the incident as a drive-by shooting.

One man was struck in the upper shoulder and lower back. The other man's head was grazed by a bullet. Both were rushed to Baystate Medical Center for treatment. Their injuries aren't considered life-threatening.

Police recovered six spent shell casings from the scene.

It's unclear if police have any suspects. An investigation is ongoing.
