SPRINGFIELD, MASS. >> Police in Springfield are seeking a criminal complaint against a motorist who they say caused an accident in the western Massachusetts city and fled into a nearby cemetery.

The Springfield Republican reports police say the driver, who wasn't identified, ran a stop sign on Fiberloid Street around 8:30 p.m. Sunday and slammed into the side of a vehicle traveling down Berkshire Avenue.

Sgt. Steven Wyszynski says the suspect left the scene on foot and ran into St. Aloysius Cemetery. He was soon found by police and was taken to a local hospital after complaining of injuries sustained in the crash.

Police say the driver who was struck declined medical treatment at the scene.
