BENNINGTON -- Police said two people carrying semi-automatic handguns robbed Bennington Cinemas Wednesday.

The two forced a clerk to turn over cash, cut the theater's phone lines, then forced the clerk into a back room before leaving.

One suspect is described as a male, five feet, nine inches tall, wearing a heavy, black sweatshirt, and dark gloves. The second suspect is a female, five feet, six inches tall, heavy set and dressed in a gray sweatshirt, and black gloves. Both were wearing white hockey masks.

They both brandished black handguns. Police do not know what direction they went after leaving, nor what means they used to travel.

The incident was reported at 10:30 p.m.

A Bennington Cinemas employee, who did not give her name to the Banner, said people were in the movie theaters at the time, but no one was reported injured. It was reported by WBTN, a local radio station, that police are reviewing surveillance tapes.

Anyone with information or who might recognized the suspects from the surveillance photo is asked to contact Bennington Police at 802-442-1030. Use the case number 14BN03548.

Vermont State Police and the Department of Corrections assisted with the incident.
