Police seek suspect in robbery attempt at Pittsfield variety store


PITTSFIELD >> City police are investigating a Thursday afternoon robbery attempt at Thing or 2 Variety on Francis Avenue.

About 4:38 p.m., a suspect entered the store and tried to grab cash from the open register while the clerk was finishing a sale, pushing the clerk in the process.

The suspect fled with no cash and the clerk was not injured, according to police.

He was described as a white male in his mid to late 20s, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall, approximately 185 pounds, with brown hair and a scruffy face and wearing a green hooded sweatshirt with white print on the front entered the store.

Pittsfield Police detectives and Crime Scene Services are investigating and ask anyone with information to contact he Detective Bureau at 413-448-9700.
