Police seeking second suspect in recent Pittsfield armed robberies

PITTSFIELD — A second suspect in a half-dozen recent armed robberies is being sought by city police, who consider him armed and dangerous.

Damian P. Ivas, 40, of Pittsfield, is wanted in connection with the same six robberies for which George Bliss was charged earlier this week.

In a statement released Friday morning, Pittsfield Police asked for the public's help in locating Ivas — whose whereabouts are unknown — but said under no circumstances should he be approached or confronted directly.

Ivas is wanted on six counts of armed and masked robbery.

During a police interview following his arrest, Bliss, 30, allegedly implicated Ivas as an accomplice in all six robberies.

The pair are suspects in the following robberies: the Elm Street Getty station on Dec. 23; Dawes Avenue Variety on Jan. 7; Peaslee's Package & Variety on Jan. 9; the Tyler Street Subway and the Elm Street Angelina's on Jan. 23; and the Dalton Avenue Cumberland Farms on Jan. 24.

Bliss' wife, Heidi L. Bliss-Reed, 35, also has been charged with a lone count of armed and masked robbery, suspected of being the getaway driver in the Jan. 24 robbery.

Meanwhile, six other armed robberies in Pittsfield since Nov. 23 are still being investigated.

The is no indication from police at this time whether Ivas or either of the Blisses are also suspects in any of those open cases.

Anyone with information about Ivas' whereabouts is asked to call 911 or 413-448-9700 and press 0 for dispatch.
