Police: Woman injured after jumping off I-291 overpass

SPRINGFIELD, MASS. >> A woman who jumped off an Interstate 291 overpass in Springfield while fleeing from a traffic stop was charged on an outstanding warrant.

State police say a trooper tried to pull over a car for speeding at around 4 p.m. Monday, but the car accelerated and a brief chase ensued.

The car hit other vehicles as it attempted to exit the highway, ending the pursuit. Police say Patricia Cloutier, of West Springfield, and Chase Sardella, of Agawam, left the car and ran up a ramp.

Police say Cloutier jumped, falling about 30 feet to the railroad tracks. She was seriously injured.

Cloutier and Sardella were charged on warrants. Sardella is also facing charges related to the crash.
