Porch fire causes 'significant' damage to exterior of Pittsfield home

PITTSFIELD >> A fast-moving fire that started on the porch caused "significant" exterior damage on Thursday to a home at 46 View St., according to a report from the Pittsfield Fire Department.

The fire was reported about 1:30 p.m., and was knocked down "within minutes" of the arrival of city fire crews, the report said.

"A couple with their young child owns the home," the report said. "They were outside in the yard on the opposite side of the house when the fire started. Passersby noticed the fire and notified the owners."

Officials believe the fire was accidental, but "the exact cause remains under investigation."

The family remained at the home and the interior suffered "minimal" damage, the report said.
