Portion of outdoor pool falls through garage onto parked car

BROOKLINE, MASS. >> Fire officials say no one was injured when a portion of an outdoor swimming pool fell through two floors onto a car parked in the basement garage of a Brookline apartment complex.

Authorities were called to the Hamilton Co.'s apartments on Beacon Street around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday for a water leak. While they were there, a 5-by-25 slab of concrete crashed through the garage's ceiling onto a car parked below.

Deputy Fire Chief Keith Flaherty says workers were removing a swimming pool on the building's second floor when the steps leading to the pool's shallow end became dislodged and fell.

Officials from the Brookline Building Department responded and a structural engineer was called in to assess the damage and inspect the stability of the garage.

The incident remains under investigation.
