Post 68 needs extra innings to beat Tyler Aces in Legion baseball
PITTSFIELD -- Josh Berthiaume's two-out, two-run, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth capped a wild day at Clapp Park, powering Post 68 to a 4-3, extra-inning win over the Tyler Aces on Tuesday.
"It was a great game," said Post 68 coach Jim Mazzer. "It was 1-1 going into the eighth inning. Both pitchers were battling all the way through."
The Aces took a 3-1 lead in the top of the eighth thanks to a two-run single by Joe DiMassimo. Post 68 struck right back in the bottom half of the inning. After the team scored a quick run, Berthiaume delivered the killer blow, one of his two hits on the day. Myles Candelet was also 2 for 3.
Joey Dewey earned the win, allowing four hits, striking out six and walking four. Pat Latini took the loss for the Aces, allowing eight hits, walking six and striking out four.
Post 68 travels to North Adams today.
