Primary Day

Thursday September 6, 2012

With no Republican opposition in November, today’s Democratic primaries will determine who will be the Middle Berkshire register of deeds and the representative from the newly constituted 1st Congressional District. We urge voters to come to the polls in numbers reflective of the importance of these races.

The Berkshire Eagle has endorsed Patsy Harris in the race with Jody Phillips and Scott Pignatelli for register of deeds. As an experienced register currently in the office she would bring institutional knowledge and passion to the top position. Of the endorsements made in this campaign, we believe that the endorsements of Ms. Harris by current register Andrea F. Nuciforo Jr., former register Mary K. O’Brien, the Berkshire Association of Paralegals and Legal Secretaries and 63 local attorneys are of the most significance because they speak directly to her capabilities by those most familiar with the Registry.

The Eagle has endorsed Springfield Representative Richard Neal, currently of the 2nd Congressional District, in the race against Mr. Nuciforo of Pittsfield and Bill Shein of Alford. A veteran congressman who is strong on middle-class issues and has been able to work across the aisle, we believe that Mr. Neal has the experience and seniority to help the Berkshires as Representative John Olver has done for many years.
