Principal doesn't merit criticism

Friday May 4, 2012

I certainly understand the outrage expressed by a number of letter writers [Scott Muir allegations] in the Berkshire Eagle, any same person would. However, Stockbridge Plain School Principal Robert Put nam, when first apprised of allegations, immediately conducted an in-school internal investigation while at the same time reporting the incident to the correct agency, the Massa chusetts Department of Chil dren and Families, which in turn called in the Mass State Police.

Mr. Putnam also handed over all the school's internal information to the DCF. Now both these agencies, the professionals who, unlike a school principal, are trained to ferret out criminal activity, came and conducted their own investigation and in the end did not file charges. So yes, the community is facing a nightmare, but before one begins to trash Mr. Putnam's unblemished career of public service in our community, let's get the facts straight.
