Providence Court fire brought out best
In light of the recent fire and water damage at Providence Court, I'd like to express appreciation and respect for the fine efforts of the folks who helped residents through that difficult time.
This fire occurred near midnight and was very threatening to the 80 elderly residents of Providence Court.
The prompt action of Pittsfield firefighters along with aid from Charley Smith and his Pittsfield Housing Authority workers got the fire and water damage under control after hard and attentive work.
As a resident who had to be evacuated, I, along with a number of others, were efficiently and safely moved by van to Reid Middle School, where the Berkshire Red Cross took over and were of great assistance. Hot coffee, snacks and needed items were provided by the Red Cross folks, who were called in the early hours of the morning and donated their time to us. Local police were also helpful in relocating to new quarters.
Luckily we were able to return to Providence Court only 12 hours later thanks to the people mentioned. ROBERT AHLEN
