SHEFFIELD -- Charlotte Anstett, a junior at Mount Everett Regional High School, took these photos at a recent performance at the school by Melissa Otero. Anstett regularly takes photos for school events.

Otero, a singer and songwriter from Puerto Rico, shared her songs in both English and Spanish with the school as part its "Dia de Carnaval" celebration. Two of Otero's current singles, "Angels and Demons" and "Closer," have been featured on the Lifetime TV show "Dance Moms," and in the video game Rock Band.

Otero performed two shows, one for the elementary students, and one for grades 7 through 12.

Her performance was brought to the school by grants from the New Marlborough Cultural Council and the Alford-Egremont Cultural Council. Students of the World Languages Department also held Latin American mask-making contests, and the cafeteria staff prepared a festive lunch of burritos and taco salad for the celebration.i
