Recess: What to do the week of Aug. 30
Berkshire Community College will hold a new student orientation program on Thursday on the college's main campus, 1350 West St., in Pittsfield.
Check-in begins at 8 a.m., and the program concludes at 12:30 p.m., with a barbecue lunch.
Walk-ins are welcome.
The BCC fall semester begins Sept. 6.

Drury High School in North Adams invites all new students in grades 8 through 12, and their families, to school orientation event from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, at the high school, located at 1130 Church St.
This orientation will walk families through graduation requirements, important handbook and program of studies information, accessing the online PowerSchool program, student athletic opportunities, channels of communication and more.
Drury faculty and staff will be available to answer questions and student ambassadors will provide tours and can field additional questions regarding student activities and programs.
Light refreshments will be served at this free program.

A canoe trip along the Housatonic River will be led by Mass Audubon Berkshire Sanctuaries staff from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, starting in Lenox.
This trip is appropriate for participants ages 10 and up.
Youths must be accompanied by an adult, and all participants must be able to swim.
The leisurely paddle will explore the natural history of the George Darey Wildlife Management Area.
The cost is $35 for adults and $25 per child, general admission; discounts for members.

WAM Theatre and IS183 Art School of the Berkshires will offer a semester-long after-school program led by Barby Cardillo on Tuesdays, from 3:30 to 5 p.m., from Sept. 27 to Dec. 6.
Tuition is $215, or $190 for IS183 members; partial scholarships are available.

Registration is open for Flying Deer Nature Center Homeschool Programs for ages 4 to 13, in New Lebanon, N.Y., and at Bartholomew's Cobble in Sheffield, beginning the third week of September.
