STORIES FROM AFRICA >> Nigerian writer Uwem Akpan will present a free public reading of his works at 4 p.m., in room 3 of Griffin Hall at Williams College. Born in Ikot Akpan Eda in southern Nigeria., Akpan is a Jesuit priest and author of the award-winning "Say You're One of Them," a collection of five stories set in a different African country. The stories give voice to African children growing up in the face of adversity.

ART ENTRIES WANTED >> IS183 Art School of the Berkshires has opened a call for entries to its 25th Anniversary Faculty Art Show. Any artist who has offered a class, workshop, camp or other program through IS183 over the last 24 years is eligible to show. Work will be on display this spring in Williamstown. HOLIDAY MARKET FUN >> The first Berkshire Grown Holiday Farmers' Markets will be held this weekend. In addition to food and product vendors, there will be family-friendly entertainment. Saturday's market will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Monument Valley Regional Middle School in Great Barrington, with the Fiddling Femmes playing from 10:30 to 12:30 and Food Adventures offering programs for kids. Sunday's market will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Williams College Towne Field House in Williamstown, and feature and live music from the MoCA Jam Band, face painting, and kids' seasonal crafts with local artist Jisela Vasquez. HOLIDAY HANDCRAFT FAIR >> Great Barrington Rudolf Steiner School will host from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday its annual Holiday Handcraft Fair at the school, 35 West Plain Road, Great Barrington. The school will be transformed into a holiday wonderland of family fun including puppet shows, donkey rides, candle dipping and gifts to make and give, and other handmade items and baked goods for purchase. Care is offered before and after school and includes school cancellation days, half days and many holidays.
