Meet ...

Continuing to celebrate its 30th year, the Williamstown Rural Lands Foundation will begin winding down its series of monthly guided hikes on Williamstown trails.

All hikes will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the WRLF's Sheep Hill headquarters on Route 7, and will be led by WRLF Board members and volunteers.

Participants should dress for the weather, wear sturdy shoes, bring water, snacks, sunscreen, hats, and insect repellent as needed.

This Saturday, join a 1.5-mile moderate hike along the Berlin Loop Trail.

The final hike will be the Pine Cobble Trail on Saturday, Oct. 22.

Think ...

The popular search engine website, Google, is looking for students in kindergarten to Grade 12 to submit their artwork to possibly be featured as a "Google Doodle" on the website's homepage.

This year's contest theme is "What I see for the future ..."

Two dimensional and 3D formats are welcome, and all entries must include the letters G-o-o-g-l-e.

Top prizes include a $30,000 scholarship and $50,000 school technology grant, along with a trip to Google headquarters.

"Starry Night: Planets, Stars and More with Arunah Hill" will be presented from 8 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, at Notchview Reservation on Route 9 in Windsor.

Explore the dark night, planets, stars and more with volunteers from Arunah Hill Natural Science Center.

Rain or heavy cloud cover cancels.

The cost is $5 general admission, free for members of the Trustees of Reservations.

"Kitchen Ka-Boom!" returns to the Berkshire Museum, 39 South St., in Pittsfield, at 11 a.m. this Saturday.

Try wacky and fun science experiments using common ingredients found in most kitchens.

The "Kids Can Cook!" series continues at the Berkshire Co-Op Market, 42 Bridge St., Great Barrington.

At 10:30 a.m. this Saturday, join staff and families to make apple pandowdy.

It's a funny name, but a pandowdy is a fruit dessert that's closely related to a pie without the bottom crust.
