Restaurant Week kicks off in Lenox


LENOX — In an effort to raise the profile of local restaurants as the summer tourism season begins, the Chamber of Commerce has organized the first Lenox Restaurant Week.

Running through this Friday, the event is showcasing a dozen dining spots, all but one downtown.

Participating restaurants include Alta, Bagel and Brew, Brava, Café Lucia, Church Street Café, Firefly, Frankie's Ristorante, Gateways Inn, Haven, Olde Heritage Tavern, Scoop and Wheatleigh, near Tanglewood and just across the town line in Stockbridge.

Among the offerings: a $1 raw bar with oysters at Alta; a restyling of the Church Street Cafe as an "authentic French Bistro" for the week; a $12 lobster roll at Firefly, which has been renovated and now offers a new menu; and a "dress rehearsal" at Haven for the new menu the popular breakfast and lunch spot will offer as the manager of dinner service at Jacob's Pillow this summer.

The Olde Heritage Tavern is promoting its $8.99 "Tucker Burger" special (an 8-ounce hand-pressed burger with bacon and barbecue sauce between two grilled cheese wedges on Vienna bread) as a full-week attraction.

Brava is offering high-end, rare craft beer and wine by the glass for the first time during the week. Gateways Inn will serve a complimentary glass of wine with dinner

"There really is something for every taste and every budget," said Lenox Chamber of Commerce Director Kameron Spaulding. "That is how Lenox always is, not just one week a year, but every day, and we hope people will come to town and try a new place or visit an old favorite."

Spaulding, who views this week's restaurant week as "a summer kick-off event that we would bring back and build on," emphasized that in addition to some discounts, "we're focusing on 'Come for the food, stay for the experience.' "
